Job praying with afflictions Agape Bible Study
The Book of Job

God allows Satan to test a prosperous and happy man who is devoted to God to see if he will remain faithful despite being afflicted with misfortune. He loses his possessions, his children, and his health. His friends accuse him of unconfessed hidden sins, and his wife advises him to curse God. His tortured soul matches his afflicted body. The question the Book of Job raises is why a righteous and merciful God would allow the innocent to suffer. St. Paul answered this question when he wrote: "All that we suffer in this life is nothing in comparison with the glory which is destined to be disclosed for us" (Romans 8:18), and "We are well aware that God works with those who love him, those who have been called in accordance with his purpose, and turns everything to their good" (Romans 8:28). We are joint heirs of Christ so long as we are willing to share His suffering to share His glory (Romans 8:17). References for the course are found in the Course Bibliography.
